NYCNEN is dedicated to educating and supporting a network of members who seek to improve the food and nutrition environment for a healthier New York City.
Values
• Create a dynamic organizational environment that encourages members to actively participate, exchange ideas, contribute and network
• Promote food systems that support improved nutrition and public health
• Enhance nutrition education practices that embrace cultural competency, empowerment critical thinking and a full range of literacy levels

• Affirm the relationship between research and nutrition practice
NYCNEN Timeline
1998 - NYCNEN started with a grant from USDA. Founding members were Toni Liquori (Community Food Resource Center, now known as FoodChange) and Lynn Perton ( NYS Department of Health)
- CRFC/Food Change hosted NYCNEN until 2006
2001 - NYCNEN launched a listserv as a Yahoo! group
- Logo developed
2004 - Developed proposals leading to the development of Food Systems Network NYC
2006 - Columbia University Teachers College, Nutrition Program becomes host agency
2007 - Formal membership started. Membership dues established
2008 - Website launched
